I remember when I used to play like 3 years ago they seemed to be pretty popular....do others feel that it is slow now or am I just not on the correct sites?

I think they r still popular. Right now I'm in 8 different ones. Maybe some of the popular sites r not active anyone. I think maybe now challenges r not as exciting because you see the same ones over and over again, which makes the games not as popular because they r not as new.
What sites are u a part of?

I think the community is slower than it used to be, but its still large.

I think that it has slowed down a bit, but when you know how to search and find games it still seems very large.

what other sites are there because Ive been looking for good sites for ages and this is the first one I found, I think there easy to find if you know what your looking for but if your blindly searching like I was its not easy
